Chairperson, AFS India Board
Angela Shriani Roye (b. July 14, 1949) is the Chairperson on the AFS India Board and also a well-known educationist in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care.
Founder-Principal of Angela Roye’s Child Development Center, Bangalore (established in 1997) she follows a unique methodology and curriculum developed by her. Known as ‘Angela Roye’s method of Early Childhood Education’, it incorporates the best of various philosophies of early childhood education – Montessori, Waldorf, Playway, Kindergarten, and the Reggio Emilia approach, to make learning both easy and enjoyable for the child.
The program optimises the child’s potential – emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually with the objective of preparing the child for the challenges of formal schooling and life beyond. In addition, she coaches/assists needy children to obtain admission into mainline schools and for an improved future.
Angela is also a well-known environmentalist. She initiated several programs and magazine for creating environmental awareness among children. Presently, she runs a similar program for preschoolers.
Earlier in her career, Angela served in Vijaya Bank in senior managerial positions. After two decades, and last serving as Executive Assistant to the CMD, she took voluntary retirement to devote full time to Early Childhood Education.
Presently Angela is the Chairperson of AFS Intercultural Programs India. The organization present in over 100 countries, fosters world peace through youth cultural exchanges and education. An AFS returnee herself (batch of 1966-67), she works closely with AFS International and AFS India to keep the organization strong, and relevant in today’s fast-changing world by interfacing with youngsters, educationists and authorities in government/academia here and abroad.
Angela studied at Baldwin Girls’ High School, Bangalore and Lincoln High School, Lincoln, Nebraska; graduated from Mount Carmel College Bangalore, and obtained her Master’s Degree in Child Development from Bangalore University with distinction.
Angela leads a full and busy life – conducting workshops, writing articles on various aspects of early childhood education, and traveling, meeting people, cooking and gardening. Married to Janardhan Roye, she has two children, Kavita and Suhneel.
