Angela Shriani Roye

Chairperson, AFS India Board

Angela Shriani Roye (b. July 14, 1949) is the Chairperson on the AFS India Board and also a well-known educationist in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Founder-Principal of Angela Roye’s Child Development Center, Bangalore (established in 1997) she follows a unique methodology and curriculum developed by her. Known as ‘Angela Roye’s method of Early Childhood Education’, it incorporates the best of various philosophies of early childhood education – Montessori, Waldorf, Playway, Kindergarten, and the Reggio Emilia approach, to make learning both easy and enjoyable for the child.

The program optimises the child’s potential – emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually with the objective of preparing the child for the challenges of formal schooling and life beyond. In addition, she coaches/assists needy children to obtain admission into mainline schools and for an improved future.

Angela is also a well-known environmentalist. She initiated several programs and magazine for creating environmental awareness among children. Presently, she runs a similar program for preschoolers.

Earlier in her career, Angela served in Vijaya Bank in senior managerial positions. After two decades, and last serving as Executive Assistant to the CMD, she took voluntary retirement to devote full time to Early Childhood Education.

Presently Angela is the Chairperson of AFS Intercultural Programs India. The organization present in over 100 countries, fosters world peace through youth cultural exchanges and education. An AFS returnee herself (batch of 1966-67), she works closely with AFS International and AFS India to keep the organization strong, and relevant in today’s fast-changing world by interfacing with youngsters, educationists and authorities in government/academia here and abroad.

 Angela studied at Baldwin Girls’ High School, Bangalore and Lincoln High School, Lincoln, Nebraska; graduated from Mount Carmel College Bangalore, and obtained her Master’s Degree in Child Development from Bangalore University with distinction.

 

Angela leads a full and busy life – conducting workshops, writing articles on various aspects of early childhood education, and traveling, meeting people, cooking and gardening. Married to Janardhan Roye, she has two children, Kavita and Suhneel.

Siddharth Singh

Vice-Chairperson, AFS India Board 

Siddharth Singh is the Vice Chair on the AFS India Board. He is the Director of The Emerald Heights International School, Indore and is also a part of Round Square.

Siddharth completed his education from the Stony Brook University, United States, where he pursued a double major in Economics and Finance and was acknowledged with a cum laude for Economics. He later acquired an MBA with specialization in Marketing and Finance. He has been involved with a project in China based on the industrial streamlining of the working system and has also done a course on strategic leadership management from IIM Kozhikode. Further, he pursued an Educational Leadership course at Harvard Graduate School of Education.

He was selected by Education World magazine as one of the “Young Shining Stars of Indian Education” in 2017 and was felicitated at the ASMA India’s ‘Top 40 Under 40 Awards 2021’ for his contribution in the field of education. He is among the top 40 brightest young entrepreneurs, innovators, and game-changers under the age of 40 in the education field.

Dave Banerjee

Dave Banerjee has been in the advertising and marketing industry for over 30 years. He started his career with J. Walter Thompson in Calcutta and later moved to Ogilvy and Lowe in Bangalore. In 1997 he moved to New York and started two agencies – Banerjee & Partners and 1947 Communications. Over the years he has worked with clients such as Levi’s, Remy Martin, Wells Fargo, Volvo, MetLife, DKNY, Chase Manhattan and J&J among many others. 

He has been a speaker at Forrester Research Executive Strategy Forum, Chicago University and various other industry forums across continents. He has been featured in CNN, Forbes, CBS, Washington Post, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and various other media across the globe for his contribution towards creative outsourcing. He also represented India in CII’s Design Contingent to The Netherlands. 

Dave holds a certified undergraduate degree from Columbia University, New York. He is currently serving on the Board of Fisheye Creative Solutions, a premier marketing solutions company, and Proyog Yoga Wear, a sustainable yoga-wear brand targeting the global consumer market. 

He is a travel buff and an ardent follower of Burning Man, a global cultural movement that takes place in Black Rock City, Nevada.

Jayant Krishna

Jayant Krishna is currently the CEO of the Foundation for Advancing Science and Technology (FAST India), an organisation dedicated to enabling transformation in India’s science and technology landscape. He was previously group CEO of the UK India Business Council (UKIBC) and led in strengthening bilateral economic ties between the United Kingdom and India. He is also a non-resident senior fellow with the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., and between May 2019 and July 2020 served as executive director of public policy at the Wadhwani Foundation, a U.S. nonprofit.

Krishna previously led key initiatives of the prime minister’s Skill India Mission as CEO and as executive director and chief operating officer of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

A British Chevening scholar, he was a recipient of the A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Award for Innovation in Governance. A fellow of the All India Management Association and the Computer Society of India, he taught at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and is on the board of directors of a few companies in India.

Jayant Hari Har Lal

Jayant Hari Har Lal

Jayant Hari Har Lal, an alumnus of The Doon School and  IIT at Kanpur, started his career as a Marketing Engineer and moved on to become an entrepreneur. He set up a very successful engineering unit at Dehra Dun and gradually moved towards his passion – teaching. He has been a Housemaster and Deputy Headmaster at The Doon School. He was the Founder Principal at Sanskaar Valley School in Bhopal. 

Currently, he works as an Education Consultant. In his consultancy career, he has been an advisor to the Sehwag International School, helping with the modification and restructuring of their academic programs. He has been an advisor and Senior Executive Director, Shri Ram Education Trust. 

In addition to this, he is assisting a few organisations in greenfield school projects and has recently started advising a new premium school in Kathmandu. Jayant is an Honorary Member of Round Square International which is an organisation of over 100 schools worldwide. He is also a member of Global Connections which has senior school leaders from around the world as members. 

Jayant is the Chairperson of the AFS India Member Schools Committee.

Joseph

Joseph Kuok

Joseph Kuok’s alma maters have been St. Columba’s School, New Delhi and St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. He completed Masters in Business Economics from Delhi University. He served in the Customs and Central Excise Department under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India and attained superannuation as an Indian Revenue Service Officer.

His lifelong passion has been his love for sports, especially swimming and waterpolo. He represented India at various international championships from 1977 to 1984. He won a Bronze medal in Water Polo at the 1982 IXth Asian Games held at New Delhi. He continued to represent India at the World Masters Swimming championships held at Budapest, Hungary in 2017 and Gwangju, Korea in 2019.

Joseph has been a volunteer with AFS India since 2005, when his son went on the YES Program to the USA. 

He is the Vice President of the Delhi Swimming Association, Treasurer of the Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation of India (CPSFI) and Secretary of the Delhi Cerebral Palsy Association.

Ranjana Iyer

Ranjana Iyer is a practising lawyer. She has over three decades of experience and expertise as a senior litigator. She has handled a vast variety of commercial disputes. She  has appeared before courts and tribunals in matters relating to intellectual property laws, immigration laws and arbitrations. In addition, she has also  worked as a legal advisor to a group of companies in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

She is a  Member of the Board, School of Law, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

Ravi Pandit

Ravi Pandit has donned leadership roles across the management spectrum in his distinguished career spanning over 3 decades. He gained useful experience about the industry and business practices while overseeing the Accounting and Finance functions in large Indian conglomerates, such as, the Tatas, Bajaj, Essar, Walchand and Global Group. 

As a Company Secretary, he played a crucial role not only in the smooth conduct of Board meetings and AGMs, but also in dealing with independent Directors and Institutional investors. His last assignment was with GTL Infra in Mumbai. 

Ravi’s exemplary manners, soft speech and his ability and willingness to find solutions to vexing problems endeared him to colleagues and people around him. He is consulted by the Chairmen/Directors/CEOs in all matters of strategic importance. 

Some of his major achievements: 

  •  He has handled 5 large IPOs and raised Equity, Debentures and Term Loans exceeding Rs.500 crores in aggregate. 
  • He has had hands-on experience Merging GECS with GTL
  • Formed and monitored a JV between Tatas and AT & T
  • He won the Golden Peacock Award for CG from the Institute of Directors.
