AFS India started Interstate Regional Exchange Program to give regional cultural learning to the students of schools within India. The program facilitates exchanges between different schools, giving them an opportunity to learn about different cultures, languages, lifestyles that exist in the country by engaging the students into various extracurricular activities and other learning process such as art, craft, music, dance, calligraphy etc.

Between Delhi Public Students, Srinagar (Sending) to Sunbeam School Lahartara, Varanasi (Hosting)

“Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.”

As a part of the Inter-cultural learning 08 students of classes 7th and 8th of Delhi Public School, Srinagar accompanied by one teacher visited Sunbeam School Lahartara , Varanasi  from December 23rd to December 29th  2017. The school welcomed the delegates with open arms; A wide spectrum of activities were planned for the students from classroom learning to outings in and around Varanasi. The insight gleaned were particularly useful in providing insights into teaching processes.  From visiting the oldest University, ‘Bharat Mata Mandir’, ‘Banaras Ghats’ and tasting the delicious ‘Malaiyo’, the students were enthralled to have the view of ‘Banaras’. Among various other things students witnessed an Arti – a religious ceremony on Assi ghat, weavers weaving world renowned saris, and the statue of Buddha at Sarnath: Buddha is believed to have taught his disciples there.

The students also got an opportunity to share their experiences and folklore of Kashmir on Radio Mirchi Banaras FM. Overall it was an insightful trip, where the students absorbed the different strands of culture, and emerged as better individuals.

As a part of this exchange program, a group of students Sunbeam School Lahartara , Varanasi  will be visiting DPS, Srinagar in the month of April 2016
