By Naveen Raja, Volunteer, Chennai Chapter

“The AFS chennai chapter collaborated with The Environmentalists foundation of India and participated in the beach cleanup activity that was held on 2nd June 2019 on the occasion of world environment day.

12 volunteers from the Chennai Chapter actively took part in the beach cleanup at the broken bridge location of Besant Nagar beach.

The main agenda of the activity was to remove the plastics and micro plastics from the beaches which were noted as potential threats to the marine creature. This activity helped the volunteers to gain awareness about the threats that plastics hold and also the need to keep our beaches clean. The activity contributed to the achievement of the 14th Sustainable Development Goal.

Also, through this activity the new volunteers who joined the chapter got a chance to meet and interact with the old volunteers”.
