AFS India recently hosted the North Zone Member Schools Regional Meet at Pinegrove School, Dharampur, bringing together educators, school leaders, and students from 38 renowned schools in North India. The event aimed to foster inspiring discussions and imaginative thinking in global education. The meeting provided a platform for formal discussions and sessions, highlighting the importance of informal networking and intercultural learning. Participants had the opportunity to bond, learn, and grow personally, deepening their intercultural competence and appreciating India’s diversity.
Sessions covered various aspects of global education and AFS programs. Lt. Gen. Surendra Kulkarni conducted a leadership session, drawing inspiration from iconic leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, emphasizing kindness, self-belief, and humility.
A session on AFS programs featured alumni and a host family sharing their personal experiences, emphasizing the transformative power of intercultural exchanges. They passionately spoke about how AFS broadened their perspectives and contributed to personal and professional growth. An exciting announcement was made about the upcoming MU20 Indore Program, a collaboration between AFS India and Muniversiti Edcorp, aiming to create a scholarship fund for deserving students to experience life-changing intercultural exchanges.
The event included sessions on nurturing a global mindset, reimagining AFS, and a lecture by Mr. Jayant Krishna on creating a better youth, providing valuable insights, practical advice, and thought-provoking discussions. Participants also had the opportunity to visit local industries, including the Mohan Meakin Brewery in Kasauli and the PA Pinions Watch Factory in Dharampur, gaining insights into these sectors. The meeting concluded with a brainstorming and ideation session, discussing achievements, challenges, and future activities related to AFS programs. The ‘Roses, Thorns & Buds’ activity encouraged fruitful discussions among school leaders, educators, and students.
Overall, the AFS India Regional Meet – North Zone Member Schools successfully fostered intercultural understanding, inspired leadership, and promoted the transformative power of global education.
