Mr. G.J Manohar, Headmaster of Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School, Chetpet, Chennai receives National Award for teacher on Teachers Day 2017 in New Delhi. He also later met President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapathi Bhavan with the other awardees.

An alumnus of the Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School, Chetpet, Manohar started as a teacher at the school in 1988. According to him, the award was given for the overall development of the school, quality of infrastructure and the academics. From after-school coaching classes, an open option especially for students who are first-generation learners who do not have proper facilities to remedial classes for lower classes, the school has been taking various initiatives, he added.

“This is an honour not only for me but also for the institution. The role that teachers play has greatly changed over the years and they have gone on from just limiting themselves to classroom teaching to becoming mentors for students,” he said.

Mr. Manohar became the headmaster of the MCC School in 2006. AFS India and MCC School have been working together since 2008. We continue our association through both our  Hosting and Sending Programs.
