Enriching Highlights from the AFS India South Zone Meet 2025
The AFS South Zone Meet 2025 took place at Global City International School, Bangalore. The event began with a vibrant parade of the students with their school flags.
The inspiring keynote address from USA by Mr. Daniel Obst, President & CEO AFS Intercultural Programs and Ms. Linda Stuart, Director, Global Education Innovation AFS Intercultural Programs motivated all present at the conference. This aligned with event’s central theme, “Global Competence: An Essential Skill”. This reinforced the importance of nurturing friendships that transcend geography and fostering values that build bridges between communities and building a more just, peaceful and sustainable world.
Mr.Jayant Lal, AFS India Board member and Chairman School Committee, Ms. Diya Badgel, National Director, AFS India and Ms. Angela Roye, Chairman Volunteer Development Committee, kept the pulse of the program going with their interactions with the students and educators.
In addition to this, the meet featured enriching sessions such as “PISA for Schools” by Dr. A. Senthil Kumaran, an innovative Math & Music workshop by Mr. Amith Nadig, and forward-looking discussions on AI in education and future-ready skills led by industry experts.
Participants experienced rich cultural immersion via interactive Chittara art workshop. These sessions offered a unique platform to connect education with creativity and tradition. Mr. Jaypal, Chairman GCIS, and Executive Principal, Mr Venkat with their wonderful team and students ensured that the event was a resounding success.
A 60’s AFS Returnee, Dr. Geetha Narayanan’s reflections highlighted the lifelong impact of intercultural exchange, which was a living testament to the enduring values of AFS: empathy, inclusion, and global citizenship.
From peer networking and city explorations to hands-on service and reflection, the event created powerful moments of connection, leaving every participant inspired to carry forward the spirit of being active global citizens.
